With roots in theater and improv comedy, she brings a certain kind of spontaneity to her stories. Louise Alvarez

Louise AKA 'Laverne' was born in Havana, Cuba. At the cusp of turning 92 years young, Louise is beginning a new chapter in her life: starring as Abuela in all things “My Abuela in Miami,” and thus fulfilling the unrequited dream of being an actress she once had as a young woman when she immigrated to New York City.

Growing up in Cuba, Louise spent much of her youth living inside a convent with her younger sister. When she was 16 years old, she immigrated to NYC where fate would quickly unite her with the love of her life and fellow Havana-native, Charles Alvarez. The rest is history. Loving kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. A glamorous career as a nail technician. The dazzling matriarch to us all. Except one thing was missing...the closest she ever got to showbiz was through the ‘starlets garments’ she would sow inside a Manhattan garment factory throughout her 20’s. That is, until now. With the help of her granddaughter, Monique a ‘star is being born’ and Louise is now living a modern version of her lifelong wish.
